Halifax Regional Police issued 74 tickets for speeding and other motor vehicle-related offences over the last two days and charged a driver for stunting this morning.

Members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 74 summary offence tickets on Wednesday and Thursday: 14 for speeding; and 60 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates, using a cell phone, bald tires, tinted windows and failed safety inspections.

Officers spent time in the Tower Road and Dunbrack/Ross Street areas in Halifax as well as the Portland Street/Settle Street area in Dartmouth in relation to community concerns.

Today at approximately 7 a.m. an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 near Braemar Drive in Dartmouth. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 138 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. A 63-year-old Eastern Passage man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.

In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
