Halifax Regional Police issued 63 tickets for speeding, distracted driving and other motor vehicle-related offences earlier this week.
On Wednesday and Thursday, members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 63 summary offence tickets: 25 for speeding; four for stunting; two for using a cell phone while driving; and 32 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates and no license.
Yesterday, as previously reported, police charged three drivers for stunting. A fourth driver was charged when an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Dunbrack Street in Halifax. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 110 km/h in the 60 km/h zone. A 60-year-old man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.
