Police charge man with weapons and drug offences

Police have charged a man with weapons and drug offences in relation to searches of two locations in Halifax last week.

On December 10 investigators in the Drug Unit and Guns and Gangs Unit of the Integrated Special Enforcement Section conducted searches of two addresses, one on Parkland Avenue and the other on Prescott Street in Halifax, in relation to an ongoing investigation. Investigators seized a quantity of cocaine, hydromorphone pills, cash, brass knuckles, a loaded handgun and ammunition. A man was arrested at one of the addresses without incident.

A 25-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of:

•         Unsafe storage of a firearm

  •        Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace

•         Unauthorized possession of a firearm

•         Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized

•         Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition

  •        Possession of a prohibited weapon
  •        Possession for the purposes of trafficking – cocaine
  •        Possession for the purpose of trafficking – hydromorphone pills
  •        Possession of property obtained by crime
