Police issued a summary offence ticket for failing to comply with the regulations set out in the Health Protection Act in relation to an incident that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

On February 8 at approximately 9:15 a.m., police received a report of a woman who was at Citadel High School after being barred from that location under the Protection of Property Act. Officers investigated and found that while at the school, the woman refused to wear a mask as required under the COVID-19 public health directives. Officers located the woman a short time later and issued her a summary offence ticket under section 71 (1) (b) of the Health Protection Act for failing to comply with the act and its regulations, which carries a fine of $2,422.00.

The woman was also issued a summary offence ticket for entering a premise where prohibited contrary to the Protection of Property Act.

HRP is reminding everyone to follow the current public health measures related to the COVID-19 emergency. We strongly advise members of the public to continue to educate themselves on these public health directives and COVID-19 enforcement measures at: https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/.

Enforcement of these restrictions remains a vital part of the overall strategy to curb the pandemic.
