Police have charged two drivers with driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit today.
At approximately 9:45 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed on Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax. The officer observed the vehicles’ speed at 127 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
The drivers of the vehicles, a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the drivers were suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicles they were driving were seized and impounded.
The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
