Police investigated two shootings that occurred in Halifax last night and arrested a man in relation to weapons offences.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Micmac Street and Chisholm Avenue. A residence in the area had been struck with bullets. There were no reported injuries. A dark-coloured vehicle was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
At approximately 10:45 p.m. police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Bently Drive. Officers located evidence of a shooting in the area. There were no reports of injuries or property damage.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. officers located a single vehicle crash into a power pole in the area of Lacewood Drive near Lincoln Cross Drive. The vehicle matched the description from the earlier incident. Evidence of a shooting was located with the vehicle and a loaded handgun was seized. The driver of the vehicle was arrested without incident.
Shiquawn Marcel Upshaw-Paris, 26, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (x 2)
- Improper storage of a firearm
- Breach of a court order (x 3)
The investigations are in the early stages and investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are looking at commonalities between the incidents to determine if they are related.
