Police lay robbery charges

Halifax Regional Police has charged a woman in relation to a robbery that occurred last month in Dartmouth.

On January 27 at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Needs Convenience Store located at 100 Highfield Park Drive. A man and a woman entered the store and the woman produced what it believed to be a handgun while the man went behind the counter and removed cigarettes and cash. The suspects fled the area on foot. The employee was not physically injured.

Last night, officers arrested one of the suspects at a residence in Halifax. Mykayla Smith, 19, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Disguise with intent       
  • Robbery with a firearm (x2)
  • Failure to comply with condition of release order (x3)

Investigators continue to look for the second suspect who is described a white man in his 20s, approximately 5’7’ tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a black sweater, a black puffy vest, brown Nike shoes, and carrying a black backpack at the time of the incident.
