Police lay charges in school threats case

Police have charged two youths in an incident where threats were made toward a school in the region.

Since April 1 Halifax Regional Police and the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment have received 25 separate incidents where messages have been left in schools throughout the region referring to explosive devices in the buildings. On each occasion police attended the school and checked the premises, with the assistance of school officials, and were unable to locate safety concerns.  

Yesterday, investigators arrested and charged a 15-year-old youth and a 16-year-old youth in relation to the incident that occurred at J.L. Ilsley High School on May 7.  The two youths are scheduled to appear in youth court at a later date to face charges of mischief and uttering threats.

The investigations are ongoing and are being led by members of the Integrated General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division and further charges are anticipated.
