The Halifax Regional Municipality, in partnership with Ignite Consulting, is launching Phase 1, the community engagement phase, of the Africville Visioning project.
This project aims to help establish a long-term vision for Africville informed by former residents, descendants and Africville-focused organizations with support from community partners.
Two community engagement sessions are being hosted:
- Saturday, May 25 – Africville Museum, 5795 Africville Road, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Monday, May 27 – Halifax North Memorial Public Library, Terry Symonds Auditorium, 2285 Gottingen Street, 6 to 8 p.m.
Each location is accessible.
During these community engagement sessions, the presentation and discussion will focus on topics such as active transportation, land use and possibilities for the area in the future.
All community members are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be available.

Next Steps
Following the completion of Phase 1, a What We Heard report will be created to inform a report to Regional Council ahead of the next phases of this project.
This is phase one of a multi-year three phase plan.
Phase 2 will entail developing an action plan to support the visioning, based on what has been learned through the engagement process.
Phase 3 will be an analysis and review of the process and the identification of any further actions that may need to be taken by all those engaged in the overall visioning exercise. This may include re-engagement with Phase 1 public participants.

Les résidents invités aux séances d’engagement communautaire du projet Africville Visioning
La municipalité régionale d’Halifax, en partenariat avec Ignite Consulting, lance la phase 1, la phase d’engagement communautaire, du projet Africville Visioning.
Ce projet vise à aider à établir une vision à long terme pour Africville éclairée par les anciens résidents, les descendants et les organisations axées sur Africville avec le soutien de partenaires communautaires.
Deux séances de mobilisation communautaire sont organisées :
- Le samedi 25 mai– Musée Africville, 5795, chemin Africville, de 11 h à 13 h
- Le lundi 27 mai – Bibliothèque publique Halifax North Memorial, auditorium Terry Symonds, 2285, rue Gottingen, de 18 h à 20 h
Chaque emplacement est accessible.
Au cours de ces séances d’engagement communautaire, la présentation et la discussion porteront sur des sujets comme le transport actif, l’utilisation des terres et les possibilités pour la région à l’avenir.
Tous les membres de la collectivité sont invités à y assister. Des rafraîchissements légers seront disponibles.

Prochaines étapes
Après l’achèvement de la phase 1, un rapport Ce que nous avons entendu sera créé pour éclairer un rapport au Conseil régional avant les prochaines phases de ce projet.
Il s’agit de la première phase d’un plan pluriannuel à trois phases.
La phase 2 consistera à élaborer un plan d’action pour appuyer la vision, en fonction de ce qui a été appris dans le cadre du processus de mobilisation.
La phase 3 consistera en une analyse et un examen du processus et la détermination de toute autre mesure qui pourrait devoir être prise par tous ceux qui participent à l’exercice de vision globale. Cela peut comprendre le réengagement avec les participants publics de la phase 1.
