The 2022 disappearance of 16-year-old Devon Sinclair Marsman is now being treated as a homicide. Human remains have been found and are now with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service for identification.
Yesterday, at approximately 2 p.m., investigators arrested 26-year-old Treyton Alexander Marsman and a 20-year-old man who was a youth at the time of the murder. Treyton Marsman is charged with Second Degree Murder, Indignity to Human Remains and Obstructing Justice. The 20-year-old man is charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Obstructing Justice. The two men are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court and Halifax Youth Court today to face charges.
The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated of particular individuals in the future.
Devon was last seen on February 24, 2022, in the Spryfield area of Halifax, and reported missing to police on March 4, 2022. Police deemed Devon’s disappearance suspicious in late June 2022. In November 2022 his case was added to the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program.
Investigators from the Special Investigation Section of the HRP/RCMP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have been actively investigating Marsman’s disappearance since 2022. The complex investigation progressed using a full range of investigative techniques.
Anyone with information about Devon’s homicide is asked to call police at 902-490-5020. Investigators believe there are people who have information who have not yet spoken to police. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to further the investigation. We thank members of the public who have come forward with information for police throughout this investigation.
Devon’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $250,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Callers must contact the Rewards Program at 1-888-710-9090, must provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.
