Police investigate home invasion
Investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are currently investigating a home invasion that occurred this morning in Dartmouth.
Shortly after midnight on September 6, patrol members responded to the 0-100 block of Albro Lake Road for a report of a man who had broken into a residence and assaulted a woman. The victim, a 46-year-old woman, reported that at approximately 11:30 p.m. on September 5, a man came to her door to advise that someone was throwing rocks at her house. She went outside to check the exterior of the residence but didn’t notice any damage. She left the residence for a short time, and when she returned home, she encountered a man inside the residence. He grabbed her and hit her with what she believed to be the butt of a gun. He also threatened to harm her family. The woman was able to get away and ran out of the house.
The suspect also fled the residence and headed down Albro Lake Road towards Victoria Road. Members of the East Quick Response Unit quickly located him and took him into custody. The suspect appeared to lose consciousness and was transported to hospital by EHS. He was treated and released back into the custody of police.
A firearm was later located on Lahey Road and seized by a member of the Forensic Identification Unit at 1:30 p.m. for analysis.
A 22-year-old Halifax man is currently in police custody and the investigation is ongoing with respect to potential charges. Investigators do not believe this to be a random act.
