Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality has lifted enforcement of the overnight winter parking ban until further notice; however, residents are reminded not to park on narrowed streets, as it may block access for emergency vehicles and other traffic.
Crews are out today salting and clearing Priority 1 main routes and arterials, and Priority 2 streets following five to seven centimetres of snow accumulation overnight. Work also continues on removing and hauling snow from identified pinch-points in an ongoing effort to improve mobility and visibility. Sidewalk clearing and bus stop plowing operations are underway and will continue until all priority, transit route and residential sidewalks are complete.
Typically, the overnight parking ban is in effect until March 31, and enforced only during bad weather and snow removal operations; however, the municipality has the ability to extend the overnight parking ban regulations until April 15, if winter conditions persist.
The municipal Traffic Authority has taken the step this season to extend the regulations. That means the overnight ban may be enforced past March 31, if it’s needed.
The municipality would like to thank residents for their patience and continued cooperation over the past couple of months. It has been a difficult winter season but your help to find off-street parking has made it safer and easier for crews to clear the streets.
