Remembrance Day Ceremonies – Traffic Delays

Residents are advised that there will be a number of rolling street closures and traffic delays across the region on Saturday, Nov. 11, to facilitate Remembrance Day processions to a number of local ceremonies that will honour our veterans and those still serving with the Canadian Armed Forces.

Parades will be marching to the following locations on Saturday morning:

  • Cenotaph at the Halifax Armouries, North Park Street, Halifax, starting at 10:15 a.m.
  • Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Lower Water Street, Halifax, starting at 10:20 a.m.
  • Cenotaph at Grand Parade, Halifax, starting at 10:30 a.m.
  • Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch #31, King Street, Dartmouth, starting at 10:30 a.m.

    Please note: Due to the ongoing Halifax Water project construction on Ochterloney Street and within the Sullivan’s Pond Park, the service has been relocated from the cenotaph to the Sullivan’s Pond Band Shell. For more information please contact Bill Brooks, 902-490-5232.
  • Royal Canadian Legion, Dieppe Branch #90, Rocky Lake Drive, Waverley, starting at 10:50 a.m.
  • Cenotaph at Sackville Heritage Park, Memory Lane, Sackville, starting at 10:45 a.m.
  • Cenotaph at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Sussex Street, Spryfield, starting at 10:45 a.m.

Groups will march back following the conclusion of each ceremony, so there may be traffic delays as late as 1:30 p.m. in some areas. There may also be processions not included here for events being held in other areas of the municipality.

Police will be escorting the parades and directing traffic in the surrounding areas, so motorists are advised to obey officers on the street and watch for increased pedestrian volumes throughout the morning. Given the traffic delays anticipated, those attending Remembrance Day ceremonies are encouraged to allocate extra time in their travel plans to allow for parking.

Motorists are also advised that road construction projects will be underway in some areas on Saturday, Nov. 11, including portions of Glendale Drive and St. Margaret’s Bay Road.

The municipality encourages residents to take a moment on Nov. 11 to remember those who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.
