Police seek public’s help identifying suspect – assault on transit bus

OnDecember 19 at 4 p.m., the 29-year-old suspect from Halifax turned himself in at Police Headquarters. He was subsequently arrested and later released to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face a charge of assault.

Police asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect in relation to an assault that occurred on a Halifax Transit bus in late October.  

On October 29, at 7:30 p.m., officers responded to an assault in progress on a Route 2 Wedgewood bus travelling to the Lacewood Terminal. The driver noticed a commotion at the rear of the bus, and pulled the bus over at the corner of Bayers Road and Desmond Avenue and then called police. Officer found a 50-year-old male victim on the bus suffering from minor injuries. He stated that after boarding the bus near Halifax Shopping Centre, he requested that a man sitting behind him turn down the music coming from his earphones. The man became irate at the victim and repeatedly hit him in the face. He left the bus on foot after the driver pulled over and was last seen running on foot on Desmond Avenue.

The suspect is described as a white man in his twenties with a skinny build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark jeans, a black and yellow sweatshirt, a black and white ball cap and black sneakers with white soles.
