A man and woman face prostitution and human trafficking charges after an investigation by the Special Enforcement Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.
On May 23, investigators commenced an investigation regarding a man and a woman who directed and influenced a 16-year-old girl for the purpose of prostitution. The man and woman were arrested without incident last night at a residence in the 0-100 block of Main Avenue.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kyle Leslie Pellow and 40-year-old Renee Allison Webber, both of Halifax, were held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today. They have both been charged with the following offences:
- Trafficking a person under the age of 18
- Procuring a person (underage victim) to offer or provide sexual services for consideration
- Advertising
- Assault
- Material benefit from trafficking a person under the age of 18
- Sexual assault
Webber has also been charged with obstruction and Pellow has been additionally charged with uttering threats and breach of a recognizance.
Human trafficking is an offence that involves controlling, forcing, intimidating or deceiving a person in order to exploit them through various forms of sexual exploitation or forced labour.
