Investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged two men for a break and enter and a home invasion that occurred last night and this morning at the same residence in Halifax.
Halifax Regional Police were called to the 5000 block of Harvey Street in response to a home invasion just after 6:30 p.m. The callers reported that multiple persons forced their way into the residence and stole some items. Police arrived and completed their preliminary investigation and forensic work.
At approximately 1 a.m., officers were continuing their investigation offsite when police received another call that the suspects had returned and forced their way in the home again. Officers attended and arrested a 22-year-old Halifax man on scene and another 19-year-old man who attempted to flee after jumping out a second storey window. Both men were held in police custody overnight.
Nineteen-year-old Alexander Balfe of Chester has been charged with one count each of home invasion, robbery, break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and property damage, as well as two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Twenty-two-year-old Michael Gibbons of Halifax has been charged with one count each of home invasion, robbery, break and enter and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Both appeared in Halifax Provincial Court today.
