Today, Halifax Regional Police announced the upcoming retirement of its Mounted Unit member, police horse Sarge, after 13 years of service. Eighteen-year-old Sarge started with the HRP Mounted Unit in 2006 and has made many contributions to the HRM community.

Concurrently, we are pleased to announce that the newest four-legged member of the HRP family will be visible on HRM streets as a police horse in training. The retirement and swearing-in ceremonies respectively for the two police horses will be held at a later date.

“We thank Sarge for his 13 years of service and for becoming an iconic presence within our community,” said Halifax Regional Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais. “We are pleased to welcome the newest member of the Mounted Unit, and look forward to his contributions to safety as well as to becoming a future ambassador for our service.”
