Citizens are encouraged to attend an open house Thursday evening to discuss ways to improve the transportation network along Herring Cove Road.
Herring Cove Road is a key arterial roadway that links the Spryfield and Purcells Cove areas (and points beyond) to the regional centre via the Armdale Rotary. It currently accommodates more than 15,000 vehicles per day, and is served by several Halifax Transit routes.
It also functions as Spryfield’s main street, with a concentration of mixed use development that includes residential, commercial, institutional, and recreational.
Despite its significance in the regional transportation network, and importance to the local community, Herring Cove Road lacks a consistent vision in terms of how it should look and function.
The municipality wants to hear user experiences and suggestions on how to improve the way people travel along the busy corridor.
- When: Thursday, Jan. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (There will be no formal presentation so attendees are welcome to drop in at any time within this window)
- Where: Captain William Spry Community Centre – Multipurpose Room, 16 Sussex St.
Another round of public engagement will take place next month once functional design options are created.
The open house will not have a formal presentation, but there will be display boards and planning staff on hand to answer questions.

Journée portes ouvertes sur le futur du chemin Herring Cove
Le mercredi 9 janvier 2019 (Halifax, N.-É.) – Les citoyens sont invités à participer à une journée portes ouvertes la soirée du jeudi afin de discuter des façons pour améliorer le réseau de transport au long du chemin Herring Cove.
Le chemin Herring Cove est l’une des principales artères qui relient les régions de Spryfield et de Purcells Cove (et des endroits plus éloignés) au centre régional par le carrefour giratoire Armdale. Il accueille actuellement plus de 15 000 véhicules par jour et il est desservi par plusieurs lignes d’Halifax Transit.
Il fonctionne aussi en tant que rue principale de Spryfield, avec une concentration d’urbanisation diversifiée qui comprend des quartiers résidentiels, commerciaux, institutionnels et récréatifs.
Malgré son importance dans le réseau de transport régional, et de son importance pour la communauté locale, le chemin Herring Cove manque d’une vision cohérente en ce qui concerne la façon dont il devrait ressembler et fonctionner.
La municipalité veut entendre les expériences des utilisateurs et leurs suggestions sur la manière d’améliorer la façon dont les personnes se déplacent au long du corridor occupé.
Quand : Jeudi 10 janvier de 18 h à 20 h (il n’y aura pas de présentation officielle, les participants sont invités à se présenter à tout moment entre ces heures)

Une autre ronde de mobilisation du public aura lieu le mois prochain une fois que les options de concept fonctionnel sont créées.
La journée portes ouvertes n’aura pas de présentation officielle, mais il y aura des tableaux d’affichage et le personnel de la planification sera présent pour répondre aux questions.
