The Halifax Regional Municipality, in partnership with Marco Group and other leading partners, has broken ground on the new Halifax Common Aquatics Facility.
This project is part of the Halifax Common Master Plan. Once complete, the Aquatics Facility will include a 13,500 square foot pool with capacity for 450 people, a new playground, and a year-round pavilion with a community room, kitchenette, modular stage for performers, and natural shade areas from tree groves and overhand features of the structure. It is anticipated the new facility will be open to the public in summer 2023.
Significant construction will be taking place at the Halifax Common for the duration of the project. Residents are advised of the following impacts:
- The existing splashpad will remain open, but the pool will remain closed. For a list of alternative facilities, visit our website.
- The existing skatepark will remain open, but the asphalt basketball court will be closed. For a list of alternative facilities, visit our website.
- The existing playground will be dismantled, and a temporary play structure will be built near the corner of Bell Road and Trollope Street.
- The existing Pavilion building will be dismantled and unavailable for bookings.
The municipality is offering free swims at the Needham Community Centre pool throughout summer 2022 to minimize disruptions for residents who regularly use the Halifax Common pool. More details will be available at halifax.ca/recreation.
Once complete, the Halifax Commons Aquatic Facility and surrounding area will be a significant enhancement for urban aquatics, recreational play, entertainment, and an outdoor oasis for residents to enjoy.

La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax, en partenariat avec Marco Group et d’autres partenaires de premier plan, a levé la première pierre de la nouvelle installation aquatique du Halifax Common.
Ce projet fait partie du Plan directeur du Halifax Common. Une fois terminée, l’installation aquatique comprendra une piscine de 13 500 pieds carrés pouvant accueillir 450 personnes, une nouvelle aire de jeux et un pavillon ouvert toute l’année avec une salle communautaire, une kitchenette, une scène modulable pour les artistes et des zones d’ombre naturelle des arbres et des éléments de couverture de la structure. On prévoit que la nouvelle installation sera ouverte au public à l’été 2023.
Des travaux de construction importants auront lieu au Halifax Common pendant toute la durée du projet. Les résidents sont informés des répercussions suivantes :

- L’aire de jeu existante sera démantelée et une structure de jeu temporaire sera construite à l’angle du chemin Bell et de la rue Trollope.
- Le bâtiment du Pavillon existant sera démantelé et ne sera pas disponible pour les réservations.
La municipalité offre des baignades gratuites à la piscine du Centre communautaire Needham tout au long de l’été 2022 afin de minimiser les perturbations pour les résidents qui utilisent régulièrement la piscine du Halifax Common. Une fois terminée, l’installation aquatique du Halifax Common et ses environs constitueront une importante amélioration pour les activités aquatiques urbaines, les jeux récréatifs, les divertissements et une oasis de plein air pour les résidents.
