The Election Office, a division of the Office of the Municipal Clerk, oversees the administration of general and special municipal elections in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Municipal elections are an incredibly important part of local governance and affect the day-to-day lives of over 500,000 residents throughout the municipality. From waste collection to public safety to transit and beyond — municipal government helps shape how residents and visitors live, work, play and invest in the municipality.
General municipal elections take place every four years, with the next election taking place in the fall of 2028. Qualified residents will vote for:
- Mayor
- Councillor (in their district)
- Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) Representative (if applicable)
