Every four years, the Halifax Regional Municipality holds a general election for both Regional Council and the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial’s (CSAP) Halifax-area school board members.
The next Municipal and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial Election is scheduled for the fall of 2028.
Municipal elections allow eligible residents to vote for their choice of:
- Mayor;
- Councillor within their district (16 total); and
- Conseil scolaire acadien provincial Representative (if applicable)

While municipal and school board elections across Nova Scotia are governed by the Government of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Regional Municipality’s elections are managed by the Office of the Municipal Clerk.
