Request the removal of refrigerant gases (CFCs) from your residential appliance: refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, water cooler, or dehumidifier prior to garbage collection. This service does not include removal of refrigerants in heat pumps, swimming pool heat pumps, or furnace units.
This is a free service for all properties eligible for curbside collection. Some appliances may be eligible for the Efficiency Nova Scotia Fridge and Freezer Recycling program.
The CFC removal program is strictly residential. Rental properties over six (6) units and commercial properties (incl. condos) that are not serviced by HRM’s curbside collection program are not eligible.
Ensure that the appliance is in a upright position and outside and accessible to contractors without requiring entry to the home prior to appointment. Please remove all appliance doors.
Once the CFCs have been removed a decal will be applied to the appliance indicating it’s acceptable for pickup on regular garbage collection day.
You will be contacted by the CFC removal contractor to schedule an appointment within 12 business days of submitting your request.
