Bedford West
Background
Bedford West is a rapidly growing community located west of Highway 102, south of Hammonds Plains Road, east of Kingswood, and north of the proposed Blue Mountain Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area (BMBCL). The proposed BMBCL Wilderness Area is outside the scope of the Facilities Plan. In established parts of the community, parkland covers approximately 56 hectares (138 acres) in both developed and undeveloped states. As residential development continues, additional parkland and facilities are expected.
Park Facilities Plan
In 2021/22, a park facilities plan for Bedford West was developed with community engagement. The plan provides guidance for the development of playgrounds, courts, and other facilities within the community’s parks. The Bedford West Park Facilities Plan was approved by Regional Council on December 13, 2022 and is now being used to consider the development of new park facilities.
What’s New?
- In 2022, the municipality acquired a 2.04 ha parcel (I-1 Lands, PID 41525924) that is beside another parcel (P-6 lands, PID 41525916) that was being transferred to the municipality as a parkland dedication as part of a subdivision development. The I-1 acquisition was for the development of a large park with a variety of outdoor facilities and the option of a possible future municipal building.
- On October 1, 2024, Regional Council approved the inclusion of a pump track on the P-6 lands (PID 41525916). The pump track has been identified in the 2025/26 capital budget.
