Day: 3rd Thursday of each month

Time: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Frequency: Monthly

Overview:

The Active Transportation Advisory Committee advises the Transportation Standing Committee, on all matters relating to active transportation within HRM. Active transportation is any form of transportation that relies on the use of human energy. It includes biking, walking, and jogging, whether it be for recreation, commuting, or simply for moving from one place to another safely and conveniently.

Objectives/Functions:

1. Advise Regional Council, through the Transportation Standing Committee, on all matters related to active transportation, including matters relating to budget, infrastructure, education, policy and public awareness;
2. Support HRM Staff on education, promotion, and any other assistance for the annual Bike Week; and
3. The preparation and submission of an annual Activity Report outlining the work and achievements of the Committee.

Membership: Fourteen (14) members as follows:

• Three (3) members of Regional Council
• One (1) designate appointed by the Advisory Committee for Accessibility in HRM
• One (1) designate appointed by the Halifax Regional Trails Association
• One (1) designate appointed by the Province of Nova Scotia
• One (1) designate appointed by Bicycle Nova Scotia
• One (1) designate appointed by the Halifax Cycling Coalition
• One (1) designate appointed by the Ecology Action Centre’s TRAX program
• One (1) designate appointed to represent a group that promotes walkability in the region
• Four (4) members of the public at large, including one (1) Youth representative (18-30) and one (1) Senior representative (55+)

Position(s) Available:

  • Four (4) members including two (2) from the public at large, one (1) Youth representative (18-30) and one (1) Senior representative (55+)
  • One (1) designate appointed to represent a group that promotes walkability in the region

Length of Term:  Two (2) years
