Overview:
The Grants Committee reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to Regional Council on annual cash grants, rent subsidies, property tax exemptions, less-than-market-value property sales, and leases to registered non-profits and charities. The Committee assesses the various organizations seeking grants from the Municipality and provides context to Council to assist in making final determinations relating to grants.
Objectives/Functions:
- Advise Regional Council on the allocation of grants;
- Develop eligibility criteria, priorities, policies, and procedures for assistance under the HRM Grants Program; and
- Evaluate programs and services managed the HRM Grants Program with HRM staff, stakeholders, and the public with a view to making recommendations to Regional Council respecting scope of programming, service standards, and funding capacity.
Membership: Up to twelve (12) members as follows:
- The Chair is appointed from the membership of the Audit and Finance Standing Committee
- One (1) elected member of Regional Council from each Community Council
- Six (6) members-at-large
