Planning for a New Training and Competition Aquatic Facility

Background

The Municipality is undertaking a study to consider the development of a new training and competition aquatic facility, including a 50-metre pool, which is also to serve community recreation needs. The study is exploring three scenarios:
•    renovation of an existing municipally owned facility;
•    construction of a new aquatic facility; and
•    an institutional partnership such as a university.

Additional information regarding the study can be found in the staff report from January 18, 2024. This report was reviewed by the Community Planning and Economic Development Committee (CPED) on February 15, 2024, and Regional Council on March 5, 2024.

Project Status

Focused stakeholder sessions with aquatic provincial sports organizations (PSO) are being held with:

  • Swim Nova Scotia
  • Water Polo Nova Scotia
  • Nova Scotia Artistic Swimming
  • Dive Nova Scotia

Engagement with specific clubs is to occur through their respective PSO.

Assessments of the existing pool inventory are being undertaken to determine if any facilities are suitable for renovation, along with a case study analysis of aquatic facilities across Canada.

The project is anticipated to be considered by the Community Planning and Economic Development Standing Committee and Regional Council in Fall 2025.

This page will be updated as new information becomes available.
